Tribute to the Rhapsodes of Ancient Greece
This is the initial posting of the official podcast of Rhapsodize Audio, an initiative dedicated to reviving the role of the rhapsode in modern society. As rhapsodes of ancient Greece performed the poetry of Homer and Hesiod, so rhapsodes of today perform the classic poetry of their language and culture. To initiate this podcast, which uses this Blogger weblog to feed audio to iTunes and other feed readers, we begin with a tribute to the rhapsodes of ancient Greece, featuring a passage from Plato's Ion, where Socrates speaks with a famous rhapsode of his day, and performances from Hesiod's Theogony and Homer's Hymn to Aphrodite.
